University E-learning Centers
In order to meet these objectives, the NELC’s revised a strategic plan aims to develop a robust infrastructure at each of the public universities, capable of facilitating an effective e-learning system. This was achieved through the establishment of an e-learning centre at each of the 22 Egyptian universities. These centers are able to develop pedagogically sound e-courses that fully utilize the potential of ICT in an interactive way. Each is staffed by a centre director, 1-3 instructional designers, 2-4 e-content developers, 3-4 graphics designers, a training coordinator and 1-2 executive secretaries. The workforce distribution over the university centers is depicted in the following figure. The average ratio of the different specializations from the total workforce within the NELC and the university centers is demonstrated the following figure. The progress of university centers is directly monitored by NELC. The internal workflow within/between NELC and the university centers is discussed in regular meetings to keep the quality of work and to streamline the processes and the exchange of data. The university centers are networked with the NELC through the infrastructure of the Egyptian Universities Network (EUN) as shown in the following figure.
